thermostat

What is the best temperature to set my thermostat at?

This depends on the time of the year.  In the summer, we suggest arouud 70 to 80 degrees.  In the winter 70 to 72 seems to be the ideal setting.

When should I replace my filters?

If you use disposable filters, you need to replace them at least once a month.  For washable filters, they should be cleaned once a month.  Remember, this all depends on how often you use your air conditioning.

What are the different size capacities for cooling systems?

Cooling systems are based on tonnage.  One ton equals 12,000 BTU/h.  Residential systems normally have size capacities ranging from 1 to 5 tons.

What other should I be aware of with cooling efficiency?

The SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) is an important ratio to consider when purchasing an air conditioning condenser unit.  This ratio give a number relating to the amount of cooling per dollar spent on the electricity.  The higher the SEER ratio, the better.  The ratios can range from 13 to 17, where a 3-ton unit may have a SEER ratio of 13, 14, or 15.

What are the advantages of a programmable thermostat vs a basic thermostat?

Programmable thermostats offer more features than a mercury thermostat:

  1. They are more accurate and efficient than mercury thermostats
  2. The temperature can be controlled at different times of the day without touching the thermostat
